Unless you’ve been holed up in your house for the duration of the pandemic, you’ve probably noticed a surge in the number of electric bikes and e-scooters zipping around your city. Specifically, as I sit here in our New York City office penning this piece, I can see more e-bikes than cabs passing by outside the window. Nonetheless, this is not surprising considering the expansion of the at-home workforce and the decline in vehicle traffic. Should you go ahead and purchase one?

If you’re interested in purchasing an electric bike or scooter but don’t know where to begin your research, I suggest reading our beginner’s guide first. You shouldn’t just think about things like horsepower, tyres, and frames; think about cost as well. Thankfully, this is somewhat solved by the plethora of Black Friday offers on both EVs and charging stations. These are the top ones:

The most affordable electric bikes currently available

If you’re just getting into cycling or are a casual rider, the SWFT FLEET e-bike is a great choice. The rocker bike is built in the classic style, complete with upright, tall structures handlebars. It comes equipped with all the standard features of electric bicycles, such as a removable, battery pack and a meter that indicates your current battery life and speed. Not the fastest, but fast enough to navigate most cities and get you where you need to go quickly and easily. The bike can reach speeds of up to 19.8 mph.

A-Frame Bird Cycle

If you’re used to the low cost of conventional bicycles, the price of an e-bike may come as a surprise. The Bird A-Frame is just a good deal, especially at its current price of $1,999.99 (a savings of $300). Outside, the Bird A-Frame looks like any other bike, which is to say, it is sleek, basic, and unobtrusive. The 500-watt motor housed inside may push you to speeds of over 20 miles per hour. The aluminium alloy frame not only looks great, but is also strong and robust enough to handle riding on unpaved roads and harsh terrain.

Groove Foldable Electric Bike

The primary benefit of an electric scooter or skateboard over a bicycle is portability, especially if you need to climb stairs or manoeuvre through narrow hallways. Fortunately, e-bikes like The Groove from GEN3 can fold and has similar power and speeds as regular e-bikes. The product from GEN3 isn’t the most svelte or expensive to begin with. The large puncture-resistant tyres actually give it the appearance of a mountain bike rather than a commuter cycle. However, if you can look past the appearance, there isn’t a better alternative for a portable e-bike.

E-bike with a Quick-Deployment System

The SWFT ZIP, very possibly the most stylish electric bike here, will set you back with a Black Friday Deals prices at Best Buy. You get a vehicle that can reach speeds of up to 19.8 mph. You can travel up to 37 miles on a single charge. It has tyres large enough to handle sand, snow, and rocks for the price. Nonetheless, the design, which is visually comparable to the well-liked Super73 e-bike, is the main selling point for many.
